Jackson Plaza has new owners

By Rose Hooper

Jackson Plaza has been sold, and the new owner plans to keep the existing businesses and make improvements.

At a price tag of $675,000, Don Martel of Sage Ventures Inc. in Asheville now retains a lease on the property. The properties will be managed by Chuck Tessier and Associates of Asheville.

"Rose's will stay, as will all the other tenants," Tessier said Tuesday. "At this point, we're not certain of the status of the former Western Sizzlin' steakhouse."

Steakhouse owner Thornton Cabe said in October that the hold up in rebuilding the restaurant, destoyed by fire in 1997, was due to a problem with the lease.

"We've also been in discussion with other possible out parcels," Tessier said about future plans. He stressed that Sage Ventures is "not looking to make any big changes but does plan to make improvements."

Some of those improvements, he said, include walkways, lighting, paving and new signage.
