Jackson County town and county government officials met jointly Tuesday night (Jan. 11) to begin planning for a system of countywide greenways.
Moderated by Region A planner Steve Eller, participants at Tuesday's session included all Jackson County commissioners, all five Sylva town board members and representatives from Dillsboro, Webster and Forest Hills, said Sylva town administrator Tommy Thompson. The group laid the ground work to organize an 18-member task force on greenways. Additional meetings of local government leaders were discussed but not scheduled. Both Commissioners' Chairman Jay Denton and Sylva Mayor Brenda Oliver have spoken in favor of establishing walking/biking trails to connect Sylva, Dillsboro, Webster and Cullowhee. |
