Grand jury to reconsider Jason Graybill indictment |
Jason Graybill |
An indictment against a Massachusetts man for first-degree murder was declared invalid Monday, and the Jackson County Grand Jury will consider the matter again Jan. 31.
Jason Graybill of Boston was indicted in connection with the October shooting death of Steve Jones of Sylva. Judge Zoro Guice ruled that since the grand jury had been released before the foreman made his report the indictment was invalid. In a potential capital case, grand jurors must be polled to confirm at least 12 of the 18 voted for an indictment. Graybill was indicted on a charge of obtaining property by false pretense. His wife, 26-year-old Jennifer Graybill, was indicted on two counts of accessory after the fact to a felony. |

Jeannie O'Connor, 26, of Star Lane, Sylva, was indicted on charges of felony obstruction of justice and accessory after the fact to a felony. Authorities said she had been Jones' girlfriend.
Also charged with accessory after the fact to a felony is O'Connor's roommate, 23-year-old Jessie Blais. Her charge did not go before the grand jury and remains in District Court. Jones was reported missing Oct. 28. His body was found the following evening on property belonging to his family in the Barkers Creek area. The Graybills were arrested Nov. 4 at a Salem, N.H., Red Roof Inn. They had been staying with O'Connor and Blais a few weeks before Jones' death.
