The congregation of Sylva Methodist Chruch gathered near the church for this photo, which is thought to have been taken around 1924. The house closest to the Courthouse is still standing and is the Ernest Burch residence. Other buildings pictured include the Billy Davis (later Jim Pangle) house, and the Henry Curtis house. David Trantham of Cullowhee submitted the picture, which he said had been given to him. Sylva Methodist was established in 1888 and remains at its original Jackson Street location, though it has seen several renovations and additions through its 119 years, including its most recent addition, the Christian Life Center, which was completed in 2005.
