Phyllis Foxx of Sylva receiving Outstanding Fund-raiser Award

Phyllis Foxx of Sylva received the Outstanding Fund-raiser Award for 1999 during the eighth annual National Philanthropy Day Celebration held Nov. 10 at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville.

For countless years Phyllis Foxx has worked hard in Jackson County promoting causes for youth, the elderly, the American Red Cross, health care, sports, local and national politics, the Chamber of Commerce and downtown revitalization.

That's just a minute listing for this tireless advocate who inspires others to volunteer and who has helped to raise millions of dollars for Jackson County.

With a modest and gracious manner, she champions causes but never herself. And her deeds haven't gone unnoticed - they were recognized in a ceremony at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville last week. Foxx received the Outstanding Volunteer Fund-raiser Award Nov. 10 at the eighth annual Western North Carolina National Philanthropy Day Celebration.
