13 charged with embezzling at Harrah's Cherokee Casino

By Rose Hooper

Thirteen employees of Harrah's Cherokee Casino were arrested Wednesday and charged with embezzlement.

They are Steven Walker Arkansas, Teresa French, Christopher Donald Greene, Carly E. Johnson, Terry Lee Jones, Angela Lavonne Lossiah, Ronda Lee Lossiah, Timothy Eugene McEntire Jr., Monica Lynn Sneed, Benjamin Dean Stamper, Ned Edward Stamper Jr., Felicia Ann Watty and Robin West. The charges stem from an extensive investigation by the Cherokee Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Fund irregularities were discovered in November 1998 as part of an internal audit conducted by the gaming commission, which oversees internal finances and day-to-day operations at the gaming facility.

Throughout the investigation, casino Manager Jerry Egelus has stressed, "At no time were the guests' jackpot payouts involved."
