A pedestrian died from injuries he sustained Tuesday, Nov. 18, after being struck by a vehicle on Skyland Drive near the intersection of Fisher Creek Road around 7:12 p.m.

Michael Lee Hall, 61, of Happy Valley Road, Sylva, died after being airlifted to Mission Hospital in Asheville.

At the time the accident occurred, Hall’s vehicle was parked along Fisher Creek Road, still running, N.C. Highway Patrol Sgt. Matt Wike said last Wednesday. Hall was in the roadway near the centerline on Skyland Drive when he was struck by a 2002 Jeep SUV driven by 22-year-old Kevin James Roberts of Sylva.

Hall had visited a residence on Fisher Creek earlier in the evening, Wike said.

Authorities are searching for another vehicle in connection with the accident, Wike said.

Roberts told investigators that he was driving west on Skyland Drive toward Sylva when he passed an eastbound white Dodge truck, which Hall was behind. Roberts’ SUV struck Hall, who was knocked to the shoulder of the road nearest Scotts Creek.

The Dodge, which was traveling away from Sylva, left the scene of the accident, Roberts told investigators.

Roberts, along with his passenger, Kristen Prather, 20, of Sylva, stopped after the accident occurred.

Neither alcohol nor speed are believed to have played a role in the accident, Wike said.

No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.

Officials are seeking any witnesses and looking for the identity of the driver of the white Dodge. They can contact NCSHP Trooper Jeff Beaver at 828-627-2851 or call Crimestoppers at 631-1125.
