Information Needed (hit "share," please on our Facebook post here): A 22-year-old man was struck and killed early this morning along N.C. 107 near the intersection with Old Settlement Road, and officers need help identifying the motorist who hit him. They also want to compile a timeline of the hours leading up to Cole Preston’s death – where was he; who was he with; what was he doing.
N.C. Highway Patrol Sgt. Matt Wike said Preston, a former Western Carolina University student from Tryon, was driving southbound when he went off the right-hand side of the road and wrecked.
After wrecking, Preston got out of his car. He was hit in the northbound lanes and was found lying in the road. The motorist involved left the scene. A call to 911 notified authorities about the wreck and pedestrian’s death, Wike said.
Anyone with information can call either the Highway Patrol office in Clyde, 627-2851; the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at 586-8901; or, for anonymity, Crime Stoppers at 631-1125.
“We are in the earliest stages of the investigation,” Wike said.
