A CELEBRATION OF THE 28TH ANNIVERSARY of the Americans with Disabilities Act sponsored by Disability Partners will be held today (Thursday) at 4 p.m. The event will be at the Sylva location, 525 Mineral Springs Drive. THE MONTHLY CREATING COMMUNITY WORKSHOP will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 28, in the Atrium of the Jackson County Library. This program is free of charge. Derek Morrow of Morrow Leatherworks will lead the workshop. Participants will learn how to make a small, leather clutch. LOCAL ARTIST LAWRIE WILLIAMS will teach a new class focusing on wire art rings embedded with colorful beads and stones. The class is set for 12:30-3 p.m. Friday, July 27, at the Jackson County Cooperative Extension office in Sylva (now located at 876 Skyland Drive). Attendees should bring jewelry pliers, broken jewelry pieces, stones, charms and trinkets to repurpose and redesign to create their own unique piece. THE COMMUNITY TABLE’S Blue Plate Special, sponsored by Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort, will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 25. Meals include hickory-smoked pulled pork with house specialty barbecue sauce; barbecue and citrus grilled chicken thighs and dry-rubbed smoked eggplant (portabella, veggie stuffed and topped with Fontina cheese). There will also be barbecue-mixed beans, baked sweet potatoes, Carolina buttermilk hush puppies and southern cole slaw. Bridgers will be responsible for all marketing activities, including directing strategic marketing planning and execution of initiatives to drive customer acquisition and retention.
