Dogwood Crafters Co-Op is offering a series of classes for folks interested in quilting. Suzanne Wingett, a Dogwood Crafter and quilter, will lead the classes. Participants will complete a table runner using the rail fence pattern. Along the way they’ll learn how to make a proper seam, the basics of rotary cutting, how to assemble the blocks and put together the layers of a quilt, and how to finish with binding. The series will be held on from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m Tuesdays, July 2, 9 and 23, at the Dillsboro Masonic Lodge. The cost for the classes is $48. Register by calling 586-2248 by Tuesday.

District 1 of the State Employees Association of North Carolina will hold its annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Heritage Room of the Jackson County Senior Center. THE NEXT BLUE PLATE SPECIAL will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Community Table. The menu from Harrah’s Cherokee Casino features Cades Cove pulled pork barbecue with barbecue bone-in chicken breast, grilled portobella caps, topped with caprese salad. The second option is fire-roasted corn on the cob with baked sweet potatoes, tangy barbecue cole slaw and sweet southern hush puppies. Blueberry cobbler will be for dessert. OLD SAVANNAH BAPTIST CHURCH will have a turkey shoot at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 28, at 100 Sutton Branch Road, across from Country Road Farms Nursery. The cost is $3 per shot; factory barrels and chokes only. Concessions will be available. All proceeds will benefit the church youth group.
