A TRIBUTE TO THE LATE MIKE NICHOLS is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday in the sanctuary of Sylva First Baptist Church. This tribute to Nichols, who served as something of a music ambassador for this community, will include music by Sylva Bells, Carolina Consort, Christian Harmony Singers and a solo by lifelong friend, Diana Fisher. In addition, a choir made up of members of Sylva First Baptist Church’s Sanctuary Choir and Western Carolina Community Chorus will perform. A reception will follow in the Mission and Fellowship Center.

FOLKLORIST AND STORYTELLER GARY CARDEN will tell the story of “The Hanging of Bayless Henderson” at 3 p.m., Saturday at City Lights Bookstore. Convicted of murdering N.S. Jarrett, Henderson was hanged in Webster on June 6, 1873. This is a ticketed event and seats are limited. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at City Lights Bookstore or by calling 586-9499.

A COMMUNITY-WIDE TALENT SHOW is scheduled for April 13 at Sylva First Baptist Church. The deadline for entering is March 31. Entry forms are available at the church office.

THE ROTARY CLUB OF SYLVA will be flipping pancakes again for their annual fundraiser from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 15, at Sylva First United Methodist Church. All proceeds from this breakfast go to the Rotary Club to fund local and international service projects. The club donated more than $15,000 last year to community causes thanks to fundraisers like this. Tickets are $5 and include all-you-can-eat pancakes and sausage patties.
