BRYSON CITY

DON CASADA will present “Remembering Carolina Wood Turning” today (Thursday) at 6:30 p.m. at the Swain Genealogical Society Library. From the start of its parent company in 1903, Bryson City Pump Works, the Carolina Wood Turning Company and its successors, Magnavox and Singer, has provided a steady source of employment which put food on the table, shoes on the feet and britches on the bottoms for many families in Swain County. An overview of the company history, accompanied by photographs of the plant, people and products, will be provided at the meeting. Casada’s father worked at the plant from the late 1920s until his retirement in 1975.
