THE SWAIN COUNTY Genealogical Society will meet Thursday, Feb. 4, at the Society Library (200 Main St.) at 6:30 p.m. Paige Tester of Cherokee, story specialist for the N.C. Civil War History Center, will present a program titled “Our State, Our Stories: WNC People and Families in the Civil War.” She is collecting 100 family Civil War stories each from Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, Macon, Swain and Transylvania counties as part of the Civil War History Center’s effort to collect 100 Civil War stories from each of the 100 counties of the state over the next year. Everyone who provides a story automatically becomes a founding member of the History Center through December. The Center is collecting stories by three methods: online submission by individual storytellers directly to the Center’s web page, www.nccivilwarcenter.org/share-a-story; oral histories gathered and recorded by story specialists in conversations; and printed forms that can be completed and mailed to the Center. For more information, contact Tester at 828-269-8281 or email@example.com.
