Just set your crock pot before you leave for the day and return home to a main dish that's ready when you are. This delicious dish has a slightly sweet and smokey flavor that your family will love. It's a hit at potlucks as well!
1 cup cola (Coke or Pepsi)
1/2 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon ground red pepper
1 (5 1/2 pound) bone-in Boston butt
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 cups barbecue sauce
In medium bowl stir together cola and ketchup; pour into 6-quart slow cooker. In a medium bowl mix salt, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and red pepper. Rub pork with oil. Rub spice mixture on pork, coating all sides. Place in cooker.
Cover and cook on low 8 hours. Remove pork from slow cooker reserving 1 cup of liquid. Remove bones and fat, discard. Shred meat; return to cooker; cover with liquid. Serve with your favorite BBQ sauce.
