The Red, White and Blue Ridge 5K starts at the Cashiers/Glenville Recreation Center, 355 Frank Allen Road today (Thursday), with packet pickup starting at 7 a.m. A fun run kicks off at 8 a.m. and the 5K at 8:30 a.m. Additional race details and registration at bit.ly/RedWhiteAndBlueRidge5K
The fifth annual July 4 Fireworks Festivities in Sylva are planned from 5 p.m. until fireworks at dark today (Thursday). This free event organized by the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce will feature a concert by the Carolina Soul Band (Soul/R&B/Beach/Classic Hits) from 6:30-9:45 p.m. There will be food and drinks available for purchase by food truck vendors including Hit the Pit BBQ, South of Philly, Great Smokies Tropical Sno and Chili Chomper. There will be free children’s activities provided by the Jackson County Parks and Recreation Department. These include a big inflatable slide, kids bounce house and a bungee trampoline.
The Village Green in Cashiers presents Fireworks Extravaganza On the Green at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The evening features festival food, music and dancing. Continental Divide will play Motown, beach and funk music beginning at 6:30 p.m. Chairs and coolers welcome.
