David Dorondo

As the 39th Summer Evening in Webster series continues, David Dorondo, of the Department of History of Western Carolina University, will provide not only a historical overview of the momentous events of World War II but also an examination of this history’s implications for contemporary relations between the United States and Europe.

“The year 2019 marks not only the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Second World War in Europe but also the 75th anniversary of the Allied landings in France on D-Day,” Dorondo said. “But as we rightly commemorate these anniversaries, we also see a contemporary transatlantic world experiencing a degree of disruption which is perhaps unprecedented in the decades since 1945.”

Dorondo’s “War and Peace’’ program is set for 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Webster United Methodist Church.
