Voices in the Laurel is seeking alumni for its 25th anniversary celebration.
Artistic Director Martha Brown invites all choir alumni to join this season’s choir for a special alumni choir that will perform at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 29, on the 25th (plus 1) anniversary of the Let There Be Peace on Earth Concert at Lake Junaluska.
“We have always invited choir alumni to come back and sing on our anniversary years,” Brown said. “However, this year, more than ever, we all need the healing power of music. For two years, COVID caused extended isolation, and part of that was that choirs were not able to safely sing in person for a long time. Add to that the current situation with the war in the Ukraine, and we all need a balm for our souls.”
For this year’s Voices in the Laurel Anniversary celebration, Brown has organized an Alumni Choir choral workshop with Rollo Dilworth. Voices alumni are invited to a luncheon and rehearsal/workshop under the direction of Dilworth and Brown from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., Saturday, May 28, and perform Sunday, May 29, at 2:30.
Some of the selections the alumni will sing are “Carrickfergus,” “Homeward Bound” and Dilworth’s arrangement of “I Sing Because I’m Happy” and other favorites.
More information and registration for the event can be found on www.voicesinthelaurel.org.
Once registered, participating alumni will receive a packet of music and links to rehearsal tracks. The deadline for registration is May 8.
Brown requests that all former Voices in the Laurel members go to the webpage and register current information, even if they cannot attend the anniversary event.
Tickets for the concert will go on sale April 29. For more information call 734-8413, or visit www.voicesinthelaurel.org.
