Dogwood to celebrate three decades

Dogwood Crafters Co-Op in Dillsboro is offering four craft workshops in May.

To register for a class, call Dogwood Crafters at 586-2248 by the date indicated below. All classes except the Mosaic Stepping Stones will be held at Dillsboro Masonic Lodge.

Beginning Knitting, a four-session series, will be held 1-4 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month – May 4, June 2, July 6 and Aug. 3. June Wiggins will teach participants basic knitting stitches and how to read a pattern. Cost is $6 per class. Register by April 27.

Chair Seat Weaving is a two-day workshop from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 11 and Thursday, May 12. Participants will learn how to replace a seat in a chair or stool to make it useful again, using flat reed or cane. Cost is $10 plus any materials furnished by the instructors, Junetta Pell and Andrew Beck. Register by May 2.

Mosaic Stepping Stones is another two-day workshop from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, and Wednesday, May 18. Participants will meet at Dogwood at 9 a.m. and go to a location to learn how to set river rock in a template to make a stepping stone, as well as learn about types of rock, grout, cement, curing and installing a stone. Marjorie Eyre will instruct. Cost is $35. Register by May 10.

Acrylic Pour Painting will be offered from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday, May 26. This class is for beginners or any level of skill with blank canvas and acrylic paint. Kathy Murray will instruct students in choosing colors and mixing and applying acrylic paint in a variety of ways to the canvases. Two paintings will be completed per person. Cost is $27. Register by May 19.
