While most court matters are on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, two defendants had Superior Court cases heard April 13, primarily to reduce the inmate population at the Jackson County Detention Center, with Judge Brad Letts presiding.

Results of the cases are listed below, with information obtained from records on file with the Jackson County Clerk of Court office.

Maleta Spring Scussel, 23, of Bryson City pleaded guilty to possess heroin and possess methamphetamine. Sentence of not less than five nor more than 15 months suspended for 12 months and placed on supervised probation on condition she pay fine of $25 and costs and obtain substance abuse assessment. Given credit for 26 days served.

Keonta Monteece Ardrey, 40, of U.S. 441 North, Whittier, pleaded guilty to failure to appear on misdemeanor and possess hydrocodone. Sentence of 98 days. Given credit for 98 days served.
