A term of Jackson County Superior Court convened June 21 at the Justice Center with Judge Peter Knight presiding.
Results of the term are listed below, with information obtained from records on file with the Jackson County Clerk of Court office. Defendants pleaded guilty unless indicated otherwise. In addition to dismissals, dispositions included:
James William Kent, 17, Oak Hill Drive, Sylva, misdemeanor cruelty to animals, sentence of 45 days suspended for 18 months and placed on supervised probation on condition he pay costs, make restitution, report for initial evaluation for mental evaluation and substance abuse, not own or possess any firearms or pets and no hunting with a firearm; felony cruelty to animals, prayer for judgment continued from term to term, review set for May 16, 2022.
Nicholas Ryan Courtemanche, 33, Clyde, elude arrest with motor vehicle and possess heroin, sentence of not less than 10 nor more than 21 months, given credit for 359 days served, substance abuse treatment recommended.
Jess H. Cagle, 48, Hainty Holler, Sylva, was found in violation of probation, probation revoked and sentence of not less than eight nor more than 19 months activated, given credit for 34 days served, work release recommended.
