Two sessions of Jackson County District Court were held last week at the Justice Center with Judge Donna Forga presiding.

A session mainly for traffic cases was held March 9, with a session for other cases March 10.

Results of the sessions are listed below, with information obtained from records on file with the Jackson County Clerk of Court office. Defendants pleaded guilty unless indicated otherwise. In addition to dismissals, infractions, and cases reported elsewhere, dispositions included:

March 9

Rudy Vasquez Torres, 62, Knoxville, Tenn., driving while impaired – level five, sentence of not less than nor more than 60 days suspended for 12 months and placed on unsupervised probation on condition he pay fine of $100 and costs, obtain substance abuse assessment, surrender driver’s license and perform 24 hours community service.

Sammy Lee Harris, 64, Long Bow Lane, Whittier, appeared on two counts of probation violation, on each count monies owed to become civil judgment and probation terminated.

Kady Breanne Hall, 23, Franklin, driving while impaired – level two, sentence of not less than nor more than 12 months suspended for 36 months and placed on special supervised probation on condition she serve seven days active time, pay fine of $350 and costs, obtain substance abuse assessment, surrender driver’s license and perform 90 hours community service.

Christopher Ray Milkey, 49, Wild Hog Ridge, Sylva, driving while impaired – level two, sentence of not less than nor more than 12 months suspended for 36 months and placed on supervised probation on condition he pay fine of $100 and costs, obtain substance abuse assessment, surrender driver’s license and perform 90 hours community service, assigned to continuous alcohol monitoring for 90 days, given credit for 187 days.

Andrew Mitchell Chastain, 33, Marble, driving while impaired, continued to May 3 for sentencing.

March 10

Corinne Ramos, 53, Toohow Road, Whittier, admitted to a probation violation, monies owed to become civil judgment, probation terminated.

Trent Wesley Kirkpatrick, 31, Henry Road, Sylva, larceny, sentence of 45 days suspended for 12 months and placed on unsupervised probation on condition he pay fine of $150 and costs and have no contact with victims.

Creedence Aust, 20, Wike Cemetery Road, Cullowhee, two counts larceny, sentence of 45 days suspended for 12 months and placed on unsupervised probation on condition he pay fine of $50 and costs, make restitution of $1,054.87 and not be on campus of Southwestern Community College.

Thomas Martin Lane, 43, Nicholson Cove Road, Cullowhee, resisting public officer, sentence of 60 days suspended for 12 months and placed on unsupervised probation on condition he pay fine of $100 and costs.

Vanessa Annalee Ward, 36, Horse Shoe, resisting public officer, sentence of 45 days suspended for 12 months and placed on unsupervised probation on condition she pay fine of $100 and costs and obtain and follow recommendations of mental health assessment.

Tiffany Cantrell, 35, Polka Trail, Whittier, possess drug paraphernalia, sentence of 45 days suspended for 12 months and placed on supervised probation on condition she pay fine of $50 and costs and obtain and follow recommendations of substance abuse assessment.

David Lee Brown, 56, Cross Stitch Mountain Road, Sylva, resisting public officer, prayer for judgment continued on condition he pay costs.

Cecil Virgil Jones Jr., 54, Waynesville, shoplifting, sentence of 20 days suspended for 12 months and placed on unsupervised probation on condition he pay fine of $50 and costs and not be on premises of Walmart.

Jonathan Michael Freeman, 31, Sylva, possess Schedule II controlled substance, sentence of 120 days suspended for 18 months and placed on supervised probation on condition he pay fine of $100 and costs, perform 24 hours community service and obtain substance abuse assessment and follow recommendations; possess drug paraphernalia, sentence of 120 days suspended for 18 months and placed on supervised probation on condition he perform 24 hours community service.

March 5

Two misdemeanor cases were heard during a March 5 session mainly for juvenile cases presided over by Judge Monica Leslie:

Amber Nicole Simon 26, Cullowhee, second-degree trespass, sentence of 15 days, given credit for 15 days served.

Jeffery Thomas Burnette 24, Pilot Knob Road, Glenville, resisting public officer, sentence of six days, given credit for six days served.
