Two sessions of Jackson County District Court were held last week at the Justice Center with Judge Kaleb Wingate presiding.

A session mainly for traffic cases was held April 4, with a session for other cases April 5.

Results of the sessions are listed below, with information obtained from records on file with the Jackson County Clerk of Court office. Defendants pleaded guilty unless indicated otherwise. In addition to dismissals and infractions, dispositions included:

April 4

Jose Antonio Contreras-Rios, 30, Cope Creek Road, Sylva, driving while impaired – level two, sentence of not less than nor more than 12 months suspended for 36 months and placed on special supervised probation on condition he serve seven days active time, pay fine of $350 and costs, obtain substance abuse assessment and surrender driver’s license,

Austin Tyler Rice, 22, Rugged Mountain Road, Cullowhee, child abuse, sentence of 60 days suspended for 12 months and placed on supervised probation; possess drug paraphernalia, placed on supervised probation for 12 months, fined $50 and costs and ordered to complete assessment and follow recommendations.

Roderick E. Jackson, 41, Louisville, Tenn., possess Schedule VI substance, fined $100 and costs.

Dennis James Cope, 51, East Cope Creek Road, Sylva, driving while license revoked, sentence of 15 days, given credit for 15 days served; also admitted to a probation violation, probation revoked and sentence of 45 days activated, given credit for 17 days served.

Laura Surelle Henry, 49, Highlands, waived extradition to Georgia on charges of trafficking, possess drug equipment, failure to maintain lane and suspended registration.

In a probable cause hearing, Lane Stocker, 41, Bryson City, was bound over to Superior Court on a charge of interfere with electronic monitoring device.

Samantha Diane Crawford, 44, Asheville, waived a probable cause hearing and was bound over to Superior Court on charges of posses methamphetamine, possess drug paraphernalia, resisting public officer, driving while license revoked, no insurance and revoked registration.

April 5

Amanda Leigh Grace, 29, Rodeway Inn, Cullowhee, admitted to two counts of probation violation, on each count probation terminated unsuccessfully.

Stephen Bengivenga, 21, Manor Trace, Sylva, admitted to violation of court order, monies owed to become civil judgment.

Haley Ann Brewer, 27, Sam Dills Road, Whittier, possess drug paraphernalia, sentence of 45 days suspended for 12 months and placed on unsupervised probation on condition she pay fine of $50 and costs.

Steven Louis Broom, 43, Caney Fork Road, Cullowhee, simple assault, sentencing continued to June 7.

Courtney Nicole Cunningham, 40, Pine Creek Road, Glenville, larceny and financial card fraud, sentence of 45 days suspended for 12 months and placed on supervised probation on condition she pay fine of $25 and costs, make restitution of $1,351 and have no contact with victim.

Briana Jilpas, 35, Skyland Drive, Sylva, simple assault, sentence of 45 days suspended for 12 months and placed on unsupervised probation on condition she pay fine of $50 and costs and have no contact with victim.

Angelique J. Kirkland, 38, Wayehutta Road, Cullowhee, larceny by trick, sentence of seven days, given credit for seven days served.

Amanda Joy Lomas, 37, Franklin, larceny, prayer for judgment continued on condition she pay costs.

Rodney Alan Panther, 35, Long Branch Road, Cherokee, admitted to a probation violation, probation revoked and sentence of 30 days activated.

William Leonard Parris, 48, Dark Ridge Road, Sylva, second-degree trespass, sentence of one day, given credit for one day served.

David Austin Redmon, 26, Charlotte, resisting public officer, sentence of 45 days to run concurrently with any sentence being served.

Christopher John Rice, 33, Heady Mountain Road, Cashiers, attempt to break or enter a building, sentence of 60 days suspended for 12 months and placed on unsupervised probation on condition he pay fine of $50 and costs and have no contact with and not be on premises of victim; second-degree trespass, sentence of 20 days suspended for 12 months and placed on unsupervised probation.

Logan Kincaid Buchanan, 20, Waynesville, carrying concealed weapon, prayer for judgment continued from term to term on condition he pay costs.

Robert Larry Sawyer II, 52, Lazy Bear Ridge, Sylva, admitted to a probation violation, probation terminated unsuccessfully.

Trance Lewis Stoudemire, 33, Franklin, assault on a female, sentence of 26 days, given credit for 26 days served; domestic violence protective order violation and breaking or entering, sentence of 75 days suspended for 12 months and placed on supervised probation on condition he pay fine of $50 and costs and have no contact with victim; simple assault, sentence of 45 days suspended for 12 months and placed on supervised probation on condition he pay fine of $50 and have no contact with victim.
