While most court matters are on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a few cases are being heard, primarily to reduce the inmate population at the Jackson County Detention Center.
One defendant had a Superior Court case heard May 7, with Judge Brad Letts presiding. Information is obtained from records on file with the Jackson County Clerk of Court office.
Kenneth Wayne Edwards, 50, of Dillsboro Road, Sylva, pleaded guilty to break/enter with intent to terrorize/injure. He received a sentence of not less than eight nor more than 19 months and was given credit for 90 days served. Work release, DART, and psychiatric and/or psychological counseling were recommended.
