Two sessions of Jackson County District Court were held last week at the Justice Center with Judge Rick Walker presiding.

A session mainly for traffic cases was held Feb. 10, with a session for other cases Feb. 11.

Results of the sessions are listed below, with information obtained from records on file with the Jackson County Clerk of Court office. Defendants pleaded guilty unless indicated otherwise. In addition to dismissals and infractions, dispositions included:

Feb. 10

Kinley Caleb Nations, 18, Nations Creek Road, Whittier, driving while impaired, continued to April 13 for sentencing.

William Aaron Ferguson 40, Maggie Valley, driving while impaired – level four, sentence of not less than nor more than 120 days suspended for 12 months and placed on supervised probation on condition he pay fine of $200 and costs, obtain substance abuse assessment, surrender driver’s license and perform 48 hours community service.

Marsha Patricia Hendrus, 70, Powell, Tenn., driving while impaired – level four, sentence of not less than nor more than 120 days suspended for 12 months and placed on unsupervised probation on condition she pay fine of $200 and costs, obtain substance abuse assessment, surrender driver’s license and perform 48 hours community service.

Ethan Carroll Gaddy, 20, driving after drinking by person under 21, sentence of 30 days suspended for 12 months and placed on unsupervised probation on condition he pay fine of $50 and costs, surrender driver’s license and perform 24 hours community service.

Christopher Ryan Brooks, 22, Burlington, driving while impaired – level five, sentence of not less than nor more than 60 days suspended for 12 months and placed on unsupervised probation on condition he pay fine of $100 and costs, obtain substance abuse assessment, surrender driver’s license and perform 24 hours community service.

Michael Hunter Smith, 18, speeding 91 mph in a 55 mph zone, fined $110 and costs.

Cornelius Ashe IV, 28, Blanton Branch Road, Sylva, no operator’s license, fined $50 and costs.

Justin Charles Brooks, 37, Mimosa Lane, Sylva, driving while license revoked, sentence of 20 days to run concurrently with sentence being served.

Feb. 11

Fredrick Henry Riley Jr., 41, Mockingbird Lane, Sylva, possess drug paraphernalia, placed on unsupervised probation for 12 months, ordered to pay fine of $50 and costs, perform 24 hours community service and complete drug education school.

Casey Jerome McDowell, 30, Allen Street, Sylva, possess drug paraphernalia, placed on unsupervised probation for 12 months, ordered to pay fine of $50 and costs, perform 24 hours community service and complete drug education school.

David Manuel Lloyd Rodriguez, 23, Hallelujah Acres, Whittier, possess drug paraphernalia, placed on unsupervised probation for 12 months, ordered to pay fine of $50 and costs and perform 24 hours community service.

Dustin Vernon Sampson, 34, Owl Branch Road, Cherokee, resisting public officer, sentence of 45 days suspended for 12 months and placed on unsupervised probation on condition he pay fine of $50 and costs.

Johnnie Ray Arch, 47, Savannah Drive, Sylva, was found guilty of second-degree trespass, sentence of 20 days, given credit for 20 days served; defendant found not guilty on another count of second-degree trespass.

Kenneth Lee Tramper, 41, Lee Bird Road, Cherokee, admitted to probation violation, probation revoked and sentence of 60 days activated, given credit for four days served.

Abundio Hernandez Yanez, 40, Lofty Mountain Road, Sylva, resist public officer, sentence of 60 days suspended for 12 months and placed on unsupervised probation on condition he pay fine of $50 and costs.

James Alfred Worley Jr., 65, Blackwood Road, Cullowhee, take deer during closed season, sentence of 10 days suspended for 12 months and placed on unsupervised probation on condition he pay fine of $250 and costs and make restitution.
