A session of Jackson County District Court for trials was held Aug. 25 at the Justice Center with Judge Roy Wijewickrama presiding.

Results of the session are listed below, with information obtained from records on file with the Jackson County Clerk of Court office. In addition to dismissals and two defendants who were found not guilty, dispositions included:

Branden Henry Thomas Meadows, 23, Franklin, was found guilty of communicating threats, sentence of 45 days suspended for 18 months and placed on special supervised probation on condition he serve 72 hours active time, pay fine of $150 and costs, have no contact with victim and not be on premises of Western Carolina University.

Joan Hooper Stearns, 65, Central Street, Sylva, was found guilty of assault by pointing a gun and simple assault, sentence of 75 days suspended for 18 months and placed on supervised probation on condition she pay fine of $100 and costs and have no contact with victim, defendant appealed.
