Thanksgiving weekend brought Jackson County's first snowfall,
which began Friday night, Nov. 28. Accumulations around Sylva
were not significant, but there was enough to cover the ground
and turn Dillardtown and similar communities into Christmas
card scenes. High winds, which blew much of the snow away, caused
scattered power outages throughout the county. Jonathan Woodard,
county maintenance engineer for the N.C. Department of Transportation,
said several roads were slick but there were no major problems.
He said 2 to 3 inches of snow fell in the Balsam and Cashiers
areas with a little more at Soco. For the first time this season
