Workers
continued progress Friday on a new roof for the lobby at Smoky
Mountain High. The expanded and renovated lobby will feature a
pitched metal roof and skylights and will be almost twice as big
as the current space, said Stephanie Holland of Asheville's Cort
Architectural Group. A second phase of the project will remodel
a portion of the old cafeteria and kitchen into administrative
space, Holland said. The construction is part of an ongoing effort
to refurbish the 43-year-old school. A new dining room and kitchen
were completed during the summer, and construction of a new science
building is slated to begin next month. - Herald photo by Carey
