Thanksgiving a way of life for Scotts Creek students

'Thank you, thank you'

To see an example of how to celebrate Thanksgiving, visit Rebecca Fowler's and Kathy Jones' kindergarten class at Scotts Creek Elementary. Their motto, which they have put into practice, is "Thanksgiving is not just one day – it is a way of life."

Last month during National School Lunch Week the students drew pictures and took treat bags to all the lunchroom workers to say "thank you." Each student dictated a message that Fowler and Jones wrote on their pictures. The following week, during National School Bus Safety Week, they did pictures with messages and treat bags for the bus drivers.

These Scotts Creek kindergarten students have expressed special thanks to the volunteers who work with them each week, like Billie Bryson of Webster, shown here with her "thank you" letter and loaf of pumpkin bread. From left, the students are (front) Savannah Ledbetter, Brittany Burrell, Holly Phillips, Shelby Thompson, Victoria Smathers, (middle) Destiny Jones, Trenna Worley, Shelbey Cloer, Brittany Rigdon, (back) Johnathan Hester, Cameron Traynham, Kobe Conley, Joshua Jamison, Dillon Moore, Keaston Broom and Nicholas Ladowski.

Then the kindergartners told the teachers they needed to thank the people who keep the school clean so, once again, they did beautiful pictures with thank you messages and Fowler made an apple cobbler to go along.

The first two weeks in November the students worked on having a class "thank you" letter for the principals and administrative assistants and all the teachers of special areas. Individually, they signed all 15 letters. The class baked fresh pumpkins and made pumpkin bread. Then they wrapped loaves and presented one with each letter.

The class has written "thank you" letters to members of the National Guard's 210th Military Police currently serving in Baghdad, Iraq, and weekly sends them a box of goodies from back home.
