Parade draws large crowd

All Dressed Up's candy-cane themed float was among the highlights of Tuesday's downtown Christmas parade. A large crowd lined Main Street fo" the annual holiday event, which featured children and grandchildren of active military personnel as grand marshals. Three soldiers home on break from Iraq - Spc. Donovan Coffey, Spc. Josh Hamilton and Pfc. Melissa Townsend - rode with the children. "I just want to thank everybody who came, both the participants and spectators. Without spectators, you don't have a parade. I really want local businesses and Mary Ellen and Maurice Moody to know that I appreciate their help,² said coordinator Betty Foxx. The parade was sponsored by the town of Sylva and Sylva Partners in Renewal. - Herald photo by Carey King
