Dillsboro set to sparkle during 20th Luminaire

by Carey King

Dillsboro will be decked out for its 20th annual Festival of Lights and Luminaries this Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5 and 6.

Starting at dusk, more than 2,000 candles will light the streets, merchants will offer holiday treats to visitors, and a variety of entertainers will perform around town.

The Dillsboro Merchants Association sponsors the town's annual Christmas event, which will be repeated the following Friday and Saturday, Dec. 12 and 13.

"We're going to turn Dillsboro into everybody's little Christmas town," said entertainment coordinator Karen Barnes, owner of Riverwood Pottery.

The Cullowhee Valley School Cloggers are slated to perform both nights this weekend on the platform at the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad, but the time has not yet been set, Barnes said.

Local entertainers who'd like to perform this weekend or next (Friday and Saturday, Dec. 12-13) are still welcome to volunteer. Call Barnes at 586-3601 or Stacey Hepp, owner of Dillsboro Chocolate Factory and festival coordinator, at 631-0156.
