Forest Hills gets grant to improve entrance

by Carey King

Forest Hills plans to make itself a bit more noticeable with a $3,000 grant from county funds.

Plans are to landscape the entrance to the village "so that people going by on the four-lane can see where Forest Hills is," said Mayor Jim Davis.

"We could berm it, plant it and make it rather attractive. I can't think of a better thing for Jackson County than to show them where their fourth city is," he said.

Village residents will get the chance to celebrate at their annual holiday party Sunday, Dec. 14, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Jackson County Recreation Center.

"It will be a good chance for people to talk to us about issues in general," Dick Iobst told his fellow council members.

Several of those leaders, returning to their posts after winning November elections, were sworn in at the village council's Dec. 1 meeting.

Clerk of Court Ann Melton administered the oath of office to Davis and council members Sue Burton and Joe Rossano.

Burton also was sworn in as mayor pro tem and deputy zoning administrator.

Since village clerk Mary Ann Budahl is stepping down after four years of service, Ida Jenkins took the oath of office to replace her.

Ruth Roman will be sworn in as Jenkins' assistant at a later date.
