Counterfeit bills lead to two charges

By Carey Phillips

Two people have been charged in connection with the passing of several counterfeit $100 bills in Sylva.

Lisa Dawn Lee, 36, and John Tyson Dujat, 30, both of Pearlwood Drive, Sylva, are facing charges of obtaining property by false pretense, according to Sylva Police Detective Shannon Ashe.

Police Chief Jeff Jamison said the counterfeit bills were found last week at Central Carolina Bank in a deposit from Cingular Wireless.

"There was no indication that the business was involved," Jamison said.

As of Thursday afternoon, Lee was in custody in Jackson County with bond set at $3,000, according to Ashe.
He said Dujat was being held in the Haywood County Jail on an unrelated charge.

The U.S. Secret Service is continuing the investigation, Ashe said.
