Smoky Mountain wrestlers compile 1-3 record at Chase |
|
Smoky Mountain's wrestlers went 1-3 Saturday in the Chase Dual Tournament.
The Mustangs lost to Chase, Freedom and Cherryville and beat Hunter Huss. The Cherryville loss was actually a 42-42 tie, but SM dropped the tie-breaker on near fall points. Other team scores and individual results were not available. "It was real tough competition," Coach Todd Odom said. "It was good for our kids. We had some younger guys really step up." Brandon Woodard had an outstanding tournament as he was 4-0 at 145 pounds. He is 8-0 on the season with all of the victories by pins. "He was the standout," Odom said. "All of the other kids suffered at least one loss." He said Mike Scott and Jake Scott were among those who performed well. Some starters were absent as they were taking the SAT. A match scheduled for Nov. 27 against Tuscola was not held due to a scheduling mixup. The Mountaineers came to SM while the Mustangs went to Waynesville. "Those things happen from time to time," Odom said. "It was unfortunate because we were looking forward to wrestling them." |
