|
Brooke Allen scored 23 points Friday leading North Buncombe to a 67-31 rout of Smoky Mountain in Mountain Athletic Conference basketball action at Weaverville.
Tanaya Morris added 14 points for the Lady Hawks, and Brittany Allen netted 13. Ashley Harn had six points for the Lady Mustangs (1-2, 0-2). "We couldn't overcome their pressure, and we were never able to get into our halfcourt offense," Coach Cindi Simmons said. Harn put SM up 4-2 with 7:14 left in the first quarter before the Lady Hawks ran off 11 consecutive points. Morris had six in the run. North led 18-7 at the quarter break. Turnovers continued to be a problem in the second quarter. The Lady Hawks scored the first half's final 12 points, including nine by Brooke Allen, to lead 41-16 at intermission. Her basket with 21 seconds left in the third stanza pushed the margin to 30 at 54-24. Brooke Allen's four points keyed a 9-2 run for a 65-29 lead with 2:21 on the clock. The Lady Mustang JVs fell to 0-2 with a 37-22 loss. Tasha Grant had eight points for SM. North pulled away from a 6-6 first quarter tie to lead 19-10 at halftime and 35-13 through three periods. "We had two really good practices after our loss to Asheville," Coach Karla Phillips said. "It's still just going to take us coming together as a team and being patient with our offense. We've been working on our transition defense, and that looked better." She said Ameka Buchanan, who scored seven points, played well off the bench. |
