Lady Devils defeat SM

Brevard pounded out 17 hits Friday in a 13-4 Western Athletic Conference softball victory at Brevard.

"When the other team starts scoring, we can't let down," Coach Melissa Hill said. "We have to pick it back up and match those runs. We can't let teams win the game because of one good inning." A triple by Ashley Rice put the Lady Devils on top 2-0 in the first.

The Lady Mustangs (8-9, 2-6) came back to take a 3-2 lead in the third. Jessica Henry started the rally with a single. After an error and a walk to Amber Stephens, Amanda Magruder had an RBI single. Katie Crisp followed with a two-run single.

Base hits by Tiffany Clark and Katie Peterson along with two errors helped Brevard take the lead for good at 4-3 in the bottom of the third.

A double by Clark and home run by Rice capped a six-run uprising in the fourth upping the lead to 10-3.

Clark singled in a pair of runs in the fifth for a 12-3 advantage.

Singles by Shay Shular and Jessica Cook produced a run in the SM sixth making it 12-4.

Rice doubled and scored the final run in the Brevard sixth.

Clark was four of four to pace the Lady Devils, and Rice was three of four.

Hill said Henry and Crisp both hit well. They were two for three.

The Lady Mustang JVs defeated Brevard 9-7 at home to improve to 6-7.

Jennifer Hyatt was four of four with a home run and triple. Danielle Bowers was two of two with a homer. Natalie Cantler went two of four.
