|
Hayesville took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, and Smoky Mountain never caught up as the Lady Yellow Jackets took an 8-5 softball victory Friday at Hayesville.
"Once we get some experience running the bases, we won't be making the mistakes we are now," Coach Melissa Hill said. The Lady Mustangs made it 2-1 in the third on an RBI single by Amber Stephens. Jennifer Woody's triple helped the Lady Jackets extend the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the third. Jessica Henry walked in the SM fourth and scored on Amanda Magruder's double. Magruder came home on Jessica Cook's infield out cutting the gap to 4-3. Hayesville maintained the lead by scoring once in the fifth and twice in the sixth. The Lady Mustangs countered with single runs in the sixth and seventh. Magruder had an RBI single in the sixth, and Tara Green walked and scored on an error in the seventh. Magruder had three hits in four at-bats. Stephens was on base three times with a single and two walks. Green walked three times while Cook and Henry both walked twice. Stephens yielded 11 hits and seven walks while hitting one batter. She struck out four. "Tara made some nice defensive plays (at second base), and Stasha (Nicholson) made a nice catch (in right field)," Hill said. "Amanda hit the ball well." |
