Lady Mustang booters blank East Henderson

Smoky Mountain's soccer team blanked East Henderson 5-0 in Mountain Athletic Conference action last Thursday at Western Carolina.

"We were playing on a bigger field," Coach Jeff Brannigan said. "It was good for the girls. We were able to keep possession."

Emily Stroot scored the game's first goal at the 5:16 mark. Bridget Brannigan made it 2-0 with an assist from Chelsa Burrell at the 19:50 mark, and that's how things stood at halftime.

Carrilea Potter put the Lady Mustangs up 3-0 just 2:10 into the second half.

Sarah Whatley's goal with an assist from Burrell extended the margin to 4-0 at the 53:33 mark.

Anna Dill's first career goal with an assist from Burrell concluded the scoring at the 67:21 mark.

The Lady Mustangs had a 14-3 advantage in shots. Samantha Dudas made nine saves for the Lady Eagles, and SM's Danielle Bowers had one.

"One of the reasons we wanted to play at the Western field was the possession game (assistant coach) Mandi Tinsley and I have been coaching," Brannigan said. "It really helped us to be able to spread out."

He said the larger field resulted in some fatigue and required him to substitute more than usual.Lady Mustang booters blank East Henderson
