Nikki Blackwelder scored twice in the first half April 17 helping North Buncombe to a 3-1 Mountain Athletic Conference soccer victory over Smoky Mountain at Carr Hooper Stadium/Babe Howell Field.
"We played a better game than the last time we played them," said Morgan Patterson, assistant coach. "We were able to hold them off most of the game. We almost always play a better second half than first half." Blackwelder scored at the 26-minute mark off an assist from Bridgett Smith. She scored again 10 minutes later. This time the assist was from Jessica Anders. The Lady Mustangs (5-8, 2-8) cut the gap to 2-1 when Sarah Whatley scored at the 64-minute mark. |
| Jordan Cheek brought the ball down the left side and passed to Whatley, who had an open goal in front of her.
North clinched the game on a goal by Anders with four minutes left. SM took 18 shots to 14 by the Lady Hawks. Brittany Hilton made five saves for the Lady Mustangs, and North's Cayce Ward had 12. |
