Sarah Whatley scored five goals and added an assist Friday leading Smoky Mountain to an 11-0 rout of Andrews at Carr Hooper Stadium/Babe Howell Field.
The Lady Mustangs improved to 3-0 with their third straight shutout. Katie Loughlin scored twice while Kaitlin Ritchie contributed three assists to go with a goal. "We came out a little sluggish," Coach Chris Griffin said. "We weren't focused, and our passes weren't crisp. We played much better soccer in the second half, and everybody off the bench got to play." SM dominated with 44 shots to two for the Lady Wildcats. Melissa Queen made 16 saves for Andrews. Lindsey Lewis had one for the Lady Mustangs. Melissa Collins opened the scoring six minutes into the contest with an assist from Ritchie. Two minutes later, Whatley scored off an assist from Keely Moll. The halftime score was 5-0 after Loughlin's goal at the 23-minute mark. Three goals in a five-minute span extended the margin to 8-0. Ritchie scored off of Collins' assist at the 52-minute mark. Just two minutes later, Sarah Kehrberg connected with Whatley providing the assist. Lewis, who played in the field in the second half, scored off an assist from Ritchie at the 57-minute mark.
