Smoky Mountain turned back Enka 8-3 in Western Athletic Conference baseball action May 1 at the SM field.
Jake Lunnen limited the Jets to three hits and one run over five innings for the win. He struck out six and walked no one while going two of three at the plate. Justin Ray was three of three for the Mustangs while Trent Dillard was two of three with three RBIs. Dustin Melton was two of four. "It was a good win," Coach Tim Hawkins said. "It didn't seem like the game ever got into any kind of rhythm. We put together 14 hits and got a hit from every lineup spot but one." The Mustangs jumped on Enka starter Evan Mooney for three runs in the first. Ray singled, Lunnen doubled and Dillard delivered a two-run double. Justin Hawk followed with a hit, and the third run came in on Matt Hopkins' infield out. The Jets made it 3-1 in the second when Andy Hamlin doubled, went to third on Clint McCoy's single and scored on an error. SM had a chance to break the game open but left the bases loaded in the second and third Ray led off the fourth with a single and scored on Dillard's double. After an error, Hawk had a sacrifice fly for a 5-1 lead. |

The Mustang JVs lost 9-8 at Enka in eight innings. They led 5-1 before the Jets scored seven times in the fourth. "We haven't played real well with a lead all year," Coach Bill Rice said. Brody Frizzell pitched the last four innings and took the loss. He was three of four at the plate with a double. Jared Frizzell, Ben Robinson and Travis Stephens all had two hits.
