Local teams to resume action in tournaments |

Jackson County's high school basketball teams are scheduled to resume action today (Thursday) in Christmas tournaments following the holiday break.
Smoky Mountain will be in the Towns County (Ga.) Tournament. Blue Ridge will take part in the Hiwassee Dam Tournament. The Lady Mustangs (6-2) will open the Towns County Tournament at 10 a.m. against Heritage of Conyers, Ga. Friday's opponent will be Polk County (Tenn.) or Union County (Ga.). Winners will play at 4 p.m. with losers playing at 10 a.m. Other teams in the field are Pendleton (S.C.), Cherokee County (Ala.), Andrews and Towns County. Saturday's action will start with the seventh-place game at 10 a.m. followed by the fifth-place contest at 1 p.m. The consolation game is set for 4 p.m. with the finals at 7 p.m. The Mustang men (6-2) will face Pendleton in the first round at 2:30 p.m. Friday's game will be against Polk County or Towns County. Losers will play at 2:30 p.m. with winners playing at 8:30 p.m. The opposite bracket includes Heritage, Andrews, Cherokee County and Union County. The seventh-place game will be at 11:30 a.m. followed by the fifth-place game at 2:30 p.m., the consolation game at 5:30 p.m. and the finals at 8:30 p.m. The Lady Bobcats (5-7) will start their tournament action at 3:30 p.m. against Fannin County (Ga.) with the men (1-11) playing Fannin at 5 p.m. The tourney also includes Robbinsville and Hiwassee Dam. The women's consolation will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday followed by the men's consolation at 5 p.m. The women's championship will be at 6:30 p.m. with the men's finals at 8 p.m. SM will go to Franklin on Tuesday for Western Athletic Conference games. The Lady Mustangs are 2-0 in the WAC, and the Lady Panthers are 0-2. Franklin's men have a 2-0 league mark while the SM men are 1-1. Blue Ridge will have road games next week. The Bobcats and Lady Bobcats will be at Rosman on Tuesday and at Hayesville on Wednesday. |
