Mustangs, Bobcats to play Friday, Tuesday

Jackson County's high school basketball teams will square off twice in the coming week.

Blue Ridge will be at Smoky Mountain Saturday with the women starting at 2 p.m. followed by the men. The Mustangs will travel to Blue Ridge Tuesday with the women playing at 6:30 p.m. and the men to follow.

The starting times should be precise since Blue Ridge does not have JV squads.

Both teams will be in action Friday. Erwin will be at SM for Western Athletic Conference games while Blue Ridge will go to Nantahala.

The Lady Mustangs (4-2) opened Western Athletic Conference action at home Tuesday with a 67-39 rout of Pisgah. Elexis Smith led the way with 20 points followed by Lindsey Lewis with 15 and Kaitlin Ritchie with 10.

The Mustang men fell to 4-2 with a 77-64 loss. Justin Roper and Luke Bell both scored 17 points. The Blue Ridge women improved to 4-6 Tuesday by ripping Asheville Christian 63-39. Jennifer Sherrill paced the Lady Bobcats with 23 points. Shauna Moody added 16, and Amanda Dillard had 10.

The Bobcat men (1-9) lost 46-45 in the last seconds despite 24 points from Jeremy Stewart. Karl Stewart netted 10.
