Nominations are sought for athletic hall of fame

Forms are available at Sylva Insurance Agency on Main Street or by calling 586-2512. A picture should be submitted with each nomination. The deadline is 5 p.m. March 30.

To be considered for induction, an athlete must have been out of high school at least five years. A coach must have been out of coaching at least a year to be considered.

The ninth annual banquet and induction ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at the Sylva Comfort Inn.

Outstanding senior athletes from each of the county's two high schools will be named, and scholarships will be presented to high school seniors. Application forms for the scholarships are available at the school guidance offices. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. March 30.

The 1975 Cullowhee High state championship baseball team will be honored. Also to be recognized is the 1961 Sylva All-Star team that played in the Senior League World Series.

Sponsorships are $325, and memberships are $25. All levels of giving are appreciated. Checks should be made payable to Jackson County Athletic Hall of Fame and mailed to Sports Editor, P.O. Box 307, Sylva, N.C. 28779.
