Trail of Light drama shows lineage of Christ

eh, wise guy! Derrick Robinson, center, assumes the role of the second wise man in the interfaith Christian drama Trial of Light which will be performed Friday, Nov. 30, and Saturday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m. at Cullowhee Baptist Church. The Trail of Light, an interfaith Christian drama, will be performed at Cullowhee Baptist Church Friday, Nov. 30, and Saturday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m.

The drama tells the story of the lineage of Christ, one generation after another, from Adam and Eve on down beyond the birth of Christ.

Many stories of the Bible come to life to recreate the Christmas story. The first year the drama was presented in 1999, it involved representation from 12 local churches. One year later, in 2000, more than 30 congregations were included in some aspect of the production.

Now in the third year of production, the number of churches represented has increased so dramatically that practices are now being handled by three directors, each group practicing at different times.

Producers, directors, stage and sound crew, narrator, actors, actresses, artists, seamstresses, dancers, musicians, children, animals, families - everyone involved in this production are local community members, friends and neighbors, all volunteering their time to be a part of this experience.

Beginning at 6:15 p.m there will be live Christmas music, including a three-table hand bell choir who call themselves the Ding-a-lings. There will be a flute ensemble of local and Western Carolina University musicians. Individual singers will include Jennifer Shutters, Teresa Eberly, John Reed and others.

"Come and witness the long line of torches held high, representing a trail to the birth of the true light of our world," said playwright Amy Garza.
