Harold Williford has resigned from the Forest Hills Village Council after moving to Waynesville.
Williford, who was sworn in Nov. 17, 1997, was one of the original council members named following the village's incorporation.
After accepting his resignation at their April meeting, the remaining council members filled Williford's unexpired term by appointing Sue Burton, a North Country Club Drive resident, to the vacant seat. In other village news, Mayor Jim Davis said he planned to meet this month with Curt Wright of W.K. Dickson, an Asheville engineering firm, concerning the village's public sewer facility evaluation. In July last year, the village signed a contract with the engineering firm to evaluate the extension of public sewer service to all property owners within the Village of Forest Hills corporate limits. The council allocated up to $4,800 in its 2001-02 budget for engineering fees. The firm was also charged with evaluating alternatives to public sewer service and to provide cost estimates in each instance. This work will serve as a master sewer routing plan, Davis said, and could be used as the basis for the future design of public sewer extensions. In other infrastructure updates, Davis told the council that Scott Cook with the N.C. Department of Transportation said the long-awaited traffic light at the corner of North Country Club Drive and N.C. 107 would be installed this month. There was some discussion involving the advantage of a third lane for left turns and whether the village could absorb the cost of this additional lane, Davis said. DOT is also studying the feasibility of a right-turn egress off N.C. 107 going up to the Summit Apartments, he said. Council members were asked to note the presence and effectiveness of the off-duty deputy patrolling the village Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. |
