Myers resigns as zoning administratorBy Rose Hooper |

Webster leaders will have to find someone else to enforce town zoning standards now that longtime zoning administrator Jim Myers resigned.
Myers, who has held the voluntary position for the last 10 years, submitted his resignation citing "inadequate time to perform the required duties." Webster Town Board members discussed possible replacements, although they did not name one at their March 14 meeting. A lumber yard on South River Road was discussed as not being in compliance with the town's zoning. Currently the town only has one area, the industrial park on N.C. 116, designated for commercial activity. "Originally, we thought the owner was cutting lumber for his own house, but that appears not to be the case now," said Mayor Steve Gray, who will approach the owner about his non-compliance. Letters are being mailed to those who are out of compliance with Webster's zoning laws regarding exposed fuel tanks and abandoned vehicles on their property. At last week's meeting, board member Raymond Ledford volunteered to serve as a liaison with the planning board. That appointment came at the request of planning board chairman Susan Leveille who said such an appointment "would help with continuity between the two boards." Also at Leveille's request, the planning board will meet six times a year, rather than eight times as they have in the past. However, the board may call additional meetings as necessary. |
