Bylaw change could allow TWSA offices to relocateBy Rose Hooper |

The Tuckaseigee Water and Sewer Authority has approved an amendment to its bylaws, a necessary first step to allow the organization to move its principal offices.
The authority's original bylaws called for its offices to remain within Sylva town limits. But because TWSA has outgrown its present office space and needs expanded storage facilities, the authority is looking for a new location. Executive Director Jerry King said he has "searched extensively" within Sylva's town limits but has not found suitable property. His search has even taken him to Webster's business district across from Southwestern Community College. Property there behind Smoky Mountain Center would be "an excellent location for TWSA," King proposed, especially since it is centrally located within the authority's service area. Even if TWSA decides not to locate in Webster, it must move from its present location, King said. "We need a place where our office, facilities and storage can all be in one central location," he added. Board members approved the amendment during their June 19 meeting. The new language says, "The principle office, facilities, garages, equipment and/or other offices, buildings or structures shall be located in Jackson County, North Carolina, at such specific locations within Jackson County as the directors of the authority may from time to time designate." Established in 1992 through an agreement with Jackson County and the towns of Sylva, Dillsboro and Webster, TWSA must now submit the amendment to each of those governmental bodies for approval. |
