Stroup to compete in Miss World Pageant

Stroup Stroup Carrie Stroup, a 2000 Smoky Mountain High graduate, was crowned Miss United States World last month in Orlando, Fla.

The daughter of Joe and Debbie Stroup of Cashiers, she will fly to Sun City, South Africa, on Oct. 23 for 25 days of competition in the Miss World Pageant. She will join contestants from 106 other countries.

Miss World is a non-profit charitable organization based in London. The pageant winner will receive $100,000 yearly compensation in addition to many other prizes and travel opportunities. The winner will reside in London during her reign.

Stroup was crowned Miss United States Teen for 1998. She is the first person to win both Miss U.S. Teen and Miss U.S. World.

Stroup is the reigning Miss Hawaiian Tropic North Carolina. She plans to be in Cherokee this weekend to crown her successor. She placed in the top 12 in the Hawaiian Tropic Nationals. Since late 2000, Stroup has lived in Orlando and worked as a professional model and actress. She will appear on five 2002 calendars, including Hawaiian Tropic Retail, American Dream Swimsuit, Harley-Davidson, Hooters and Coconuts.

While living in Florida, Stroup has won several swimsuit competitions. Among them are American Dream, Venus and Miss Budweiser.

This past spring, Stroup was featured on the cover on Pageantry Magazine's prom issue. The Trentonian, a New Jersey newspaper, featured Stroup as part of a full-page spread on the country's leading teen models.

Stroup has traveled throughout the country as a promotional model for Hawaiian Tropic, NASCAR, Frito-Lay and Skoal.

She has appeared on television's Travel Channel, "Wild on Spring Break" on the E Channel and several episodes of the Fox sitcom "Grounded for Life."

Following the Miss World competition, Stroup plans to move to Los Angeles where she already has representation with a manager and agents.
