Main Street repairs

N.C. Department of Transportation

N.C. Department of Transportation personnel spent last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday fixing cracks, pot holes and sunken areas along Main Street. Crews cut out pavement, dug under the damaged areas, repacked the dirt and repaved the repaired areas. The damage was due to washouts under Main Street's original concrete pavement that caused the concrete to buckle and crack, said the DOT's John Phillips. DOT is splitting the estimated $13,000 bill with the town of Sylva. Most of the damaged areas were repaired last week; an area near the fountain will be addressed in the near future, said Sylva town administrator Tommy Thompson.
