While Joe Monroe, left, teaches a clapping routine to the girls, B.J. Mosley teaches a stomping routine to the boys. Members of Western Carolina University's Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, Monroe and Mosley demonstrated their Steppin' technique at Monday's Martin Luther King Jr. celebration. After their demonstration with canes, the two selected children from the audience and worked with them on Steppin', an ancient dance form originating in Africa. The youngsters then performed at the MLK celebration held at the Family Resource Center. Songs, prayers, speeches, testimonies, recitations and plenty of food highlighted the tribute to the slain civil rights leader, who would have been 73 this month. - Herald photo by Rose Hooper
